EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR!

Here is your opportunity to engage with the community to continue the movement in downtown Fayette. We are looking for our next Executive Director! #WhereNeighborsGather #DowntownFayette

Executive Director – Downtown Fayette

Location: Fayette, Missouri
Employment: Full-Time, exempt position
Salary: $45,000 (based on experience)

Position Overview

We’re looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking leader ready to make a meaningful impact in a vibrant small town. The Executive Director will lead the charge in shaping and executing the vision of Downtown Fayette, Inc.—working alongside passionate volunteers, local businesses, and civic leaders to build a thriving, inclusive, and economically sustainable downtown.

This is a unique opportunity to lead a community movement, not just manage an office. You’ll wear many hats—strategist, storyteller, advocate, connector, and community-builder.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead Community Engagement
Be the face and voice of Downtown Fayette. Build trust and relationships with local businesses, property owners, city leaders, and residents to foster collaboration and pride in our historic downtown.

  • Drive Strategy & Impact
Oversee the planning and execution of strategic initiatives, programs, and events that align with our long-term goals and the Missouri Main Street Approach.

  • Empower and Coordinate Volunteers
Inspire and organize volunteer committees, delegating meaningful roles, supporting leadership development, and tracking their valuable contributions.

  • Tell Our Story
Create and manage content for the website, social media, and newsletters. Share updates that celebrate progress, spotlight businesses, and rally community support.

  • Secure Funding
Identify and apply for grants, sponsorships, and other funding opportunities to fuel our mission and enhance downtown development efforts.

  • Manage Operations & Communication
Handle day-to-day administration, board communications, budgeting, reporting, and coordination with city/county governments. Attend and report at City Council and County Commission meetings.

What You Bring

  • Passion for place-making, rural development, and creative community-building

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects with autonomy

  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities

  • Experience or interest in nonprofit management, economic development, marketing, or public administration

  • Social media and digital communication savvy

  • Commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and long-term growth

Why You’ll Love This Role

  • Opportunity to Lead: You’re not just running an organization—you’re shaping the future of a historic downtown.

  • Community Impact: See the real-world impact of your work on people’s lives and local businesses.

  • Professional Growth: Gain high-level leadership experience with the support of a hands-on board and statewide partners.

  • Creative Freedom: Bring your ideas to life. Try new approaches. Celebrate innovation.

  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible work hours and the charm of small-town living with strong community support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Experience in marketing, historic preservation, public relations, or nonprofit management preferred.

  • Proficiency in Google Suite, spreadsheets, and financial tracking.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

  • Capable of lifting up to 20 lbs and working on feet for extended periods.
